Pining

DSCN6292

Let me live, nestled in the bosom of your heart,
Let me drink in the honey of your kisses,
Let me paint our love as the greatest art,
Let me see the hazel in your eyes as the sun rises

My heart yearns the company of your soul,
And with you apart my fount doesn’t flow,
Here alone nurturing these feelings so foul,
Like the dreary clouds coming forth slow

I sit without inspiration pining your laugh,
The colors run ruddy, my tears come shed,
Apart I am nothing without my loving half,
Saddened, I bleed my heart upon my head

The character of Master Onion

DSCN5632

Hear a story of great value,
Dying in teaching and known by few,
Story of love in days of old,
Story my heart in morals it hold

I show to you the Art of Love,
Cometh through a Filipino Dove,
In nature blessed I write it down,
Throuh my window sill it flit then sown

This story I write to you then,
From me, the Master Onion of Pen,
Shall bring to life this soul sweet tale
Friendship, Honor, Love and jug of ale

The Fifty Sheets challenge

DSCN5625Page 1

This day I challenge myself to come up with a story-poem about Love within fifty white lined sheets of a little notepad. Each page will embrace the lines fully without overflowing, along with an illustration to add to the tale. Each page will tell the story about the characters within, but the primary will be the lovers: Mariang Mais and Juan Ampalaya, and their journey of romance.

This story was inspired through Anna, a dear friend of mine who about a year ago was in a relationship. As her friend, it was my duty to tease and support her in her romantic undertakings. The idea was created as a way to make us laugh. But in the end to make her laugh as they went their separate ways.

I haven’t re-visited the idea until recently when I fell in love. It inspired me to bring the characters to the open. For this I would like to share them as an inspiration for the people who are in love, to the people who believe in love, and for the people who want to be in and stay in love.

I would also like to share this story- poem as I show to you our beautiful custom and tradition of Filipino courtship to which as rigid and old-fashioned at is sounds, is highly romantic and at the same, down-to-earth funny.

This tradition is a dying social custom in the country so before it dies completely let me share what I have learned, and let me share it’s moral values which taught me how to fall for the perfect person to love.

Pink Heart Soup

DSCN5605

Little hurts that do you ail,

I have remedy that doesn’t fail,

It’s called Pink Heart Soup, Honey,

Making it won’t cost much money.

It’s not the same as chicken soup-

Putting ’round the neck with a loop,

Flu, Stomach ache and head ache it will deter,

It’s my secret to make you feel better.

Best for kids, parents, and you my lover,

Say why? Because I love you forever,

Now prop up and take some sips,

After I’ll kiss you on the lips.

Cozy in the Cold

DSCN5604

Don’t shy away when you feel to fall,

I’m always here when you call,

For shower’s come so here we’re made,

Come close to me under this shade,

Keeping you close to me I would,

I’ll keep you cozy in the cold,

Be perfect companion under crisp rain,

I’ll hold your hand without vain

Pink

DSCN5602

Pink, the sweet color for girls,

Like the flowers in water swirls,

Now I feel like dancing slowly,

Something charming and lovely

Pink is a something when I blush,

A shade that makes you hush,

‘Happens before we kiss, you see,

Your Kryptonite being near me

Pink is our color puppy love,

Its innocence flies like a dove,

It’s Nutella in the morning,

It goes well with everything

The Cure

DSCN5587

The droplets on my head,

Like tears over what was said,

The more hurt was spoken,

The more love was broken,

You came with cool mildness,

You cured me with your kindness,

Love bloomed again,

So stay awhile then forever remain,

I will love you like there is no tomorrow,

For I know time is a- borrow

For D. W

Breeze and Fire under the Moon

Lovely though lonely, the breeze gracefully dances,
Oblivious to evil, twirls around in foxy stances.
Versatile and warm, the fire yet suffocates alone,
Evanescent spark of happiness, soon cold as stone.

Bespoke reunion of two wills meant for each other,
Igneous tango, breeze has passion, fire the desire.
Resplendent beauty, pure in the Beltane’s twilight,
Devoted love in fiery frolics, a blissful delight.
Sublime in the moonlit night, two hearts, one hearth.

Roots 1: Illustration: Pencil and Watercolor

This is a continuation from the last post:

I was able to unplug for the weekend and it was great! However, I wasn’t able to smell the roses because it was moderately raining. It is uncommon for January to have a storm in the country, but we have, so I guess the weather patterns certainly have changed.

The weather also affected my work but in a minute way. The speed for the paper to dry and stretch took me an hour or two to be completely done, whereas during dry periods  it will take only a couple of minutes. So while waiting for the paper to set, I doodled some more and created another artwork in conjunction to this one. I shall post them next time.

After the paper was mounted and stretched, it rained accompanied with cool bursts of lazy wind wafting in through the windows and the open door that I lost a couple of hours. I fell asleep in Saturday’s cool relaxing afternoon.

So it’s only this Sunday morning that I was able to finish it, and here is the progression of the work made.

This is the end of the initial sketch. I can still edit this during painting.

For the skin tone, I colored the darkened areas in yellow. Later it will blend easily smoothing the tones. I am sorry that I wasn’t able to produce images from the production in between.

Roots: Going back to Traditional Art

DSCN2948

As a professor and adviser of Multimedia Arts it’s part of my work to be dealing with computers and graphic software. Although we teach traditional skills in drawing and illustrations, it is highly overshadowed with the computer software for enhancement. I cannot disagree with this as the computer does the work faster in some cases.

So each day I am committed in front of the monitor coming up with various designs and artworks, challenging myself and the students to come up with optimal works.  However as the school began this year after the holidays, I have just been checking thesis papers,  submitting lesson plans, and exams. That said, it’s becoming boring once again.

Therefore I am in the procrastinating mood. But things must change. I want to go back to my artistic roots.

Understand that I am “old school” when it comes to illustrations yet I also know the value and usefulness of the computer. It’s just that it has been a while since I touched an actual pencil, and I do believe that behind every successful graphic artwork is a very good hand drawing skill.

So I started this personal project to keep me unplugged for at least two days. I want to spend my weekends quietly and in my kitchen where I work as I eat, occasionally coming out the apartment to smell the roses, literally, when my hand grows tired.  This is a  personal challenge. This project is to recreate the Goddess Venus, as I see her. So far I have two  ideas in my head and this is the one I started this afternoon.

It’s been months since my last post on illustrations. And soon I shall post the progress along with more poetry.
